Mac OS 8.5 Internet Setup Assistant


In order to open the internet Setup Assistant screen shown below, open your Hard Disk and do the following:

  1. Select the Assistants Folder
  2. Click on the icon labeled Internet Setup Assistant.

Click Yes to continue

Click Yes to create the first Internet account.

Click the right arrow to continue.

Under Configuration name and connection type do the following:

  1. For What would you like to name this configuration?, enter JVLNET.
  2. For How will you be connection to the Internet?, click Modem.

Click the right arrow to continue.

Under Modem Settings, do the following:

  1. "Which modem are you using?" should already be set to iMac Internal 56k
  2. Under Port select Modem Port. Select Internal Port if it appears as an option and your modem is internal.
  3. Select either Tone or Pulse, the option of your choice.

Click the right arrow to continue.

Under Configuration information, enter the following:

  1. The phone number for this configuration should be your JVLNET local access number. To disable call waiting, enter *70, followed by a comma, before your local access number.
  2. The name you use with this service should be your JVLNET username, (all in lower case).
  3. Your password should be your JVLNET password (all in lower case).

Click the right arrow to continue.

Under IP Address, select No.
Click the right arrow to continue.

 

Under Domain Name Servers, enter the following numbers for the DNS address (or addresses):

156.46.57.10
156.46.57.20

Leave the Domain Name (or host name) blank.
Click the right arrow to continue.

Under E-mail address and password, enter the following:

  1. The e-mail address for this configuration username@jvlnet.com (all in lower case).
  2. The e-mail password should be your JVLNET password (all in lower case).

Click the right arrow to continue.

Under E-mail account and host computer, enter the following:

  1. The e-mail account or POP (Post office Protocol) account should be your JVLNET username@jvlnet.com (all in lower case).
  2. The e-mail host or SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) host should be mail.jvlnet.com (all in lower case).

Click the right arrow to continue.

Under Newsgroup Host Computer, enter news.alpha.net (all in lower case).
Click the right arrow to continue.

 

Select No for the answer to if you use proxy servers for internet connections.

Now click on the Right Arrow.

Under Conclusion, click on Show Details to view the information you've entered.

Confirm that the information in the Conclusion screen below is correct.
If anything is incorrect, click the left arrow until you return to the screen that allows you to edit the data.
When all is correct, click Go Ahead to return to the desktop.

Once you are back at the desktop, do the following:

  1. Click on the Apple menu.
  2. Select Control Panels.
  3. Select TCP/IP.
  4. Inside the Name server addr box, click on the last number in the first line.
  5. Push return on your keyboard.
  6. Enter the primary DNS number: 156.46.57.10
  7. Close the TCP/IP control panel.
  8. Save the changes.
